I had this question in my mind since past few weeks. A couple of days back, I got to hear a podcast of the Google Chrome Engineering chief onTechRepublic. I found out the following things which are interesting to share.
1) Google chrome is an optimized operating system working out of the cloud, just for the use of the internet. The intention is to give a 'push start' entry into the internet.
2) Optimizations have been made both at hardware and software levels for a better web experience. A few examples are the extremely fast boot time of less than 10 seconds, advanced security measures in the OS like verified boot, read only OS data, encrypted file system for all users by default etc.
3) All programs, configuration data and user data files are stored in the cloud, and so can be restored in a matter of seconds in case of a hardware failure.
But in developing countries like India, fast and seem less internet connectivity throughout the country is still a dream.[:(]
I believe the demand for such online wonders can initiate an improvement.
